On 14 February 2023, Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC) received an educational visit from Politeknik Brunei (PB) Lumut led by Educational Officer, Ahmad Bukhari bin Haji Emran. Attended by 29 students studying Level 5 Diploma in Chemical Engineering, this is the first batch of Chemical Engineering students at Politeknik Brunei Lumut.
BMC believes in exposing students to a real working environment in the downstream industry and to gain a better understanding of the operational and safety aspects involved in a methanol plant before their assigned industrial placement.
Upon arrival, a safety briefing was presented by BMC Safety Inspector, Andy Mengga Anak Ibang. The students were received with welcoming remarks by our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jesús Enrique Mora MarÃn; and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdul Mu'izz bin Dato Paduka Haji Alikhan and greeted by other members of our Executive Management.
In the welcoming remarks, our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jesús Enrique Mora MarÃn, emphasized that learning is the foundation for all-round development to advance their career at any level.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdul Mu'izz bin Dato Paduka Haji Alikhan echoed this, adding that the students are the future of our nation and encouraged the students to ask questions during the session. This is not only for their academic achievement but also for their personal development.
The students had an interactive session with our Engineers from the Oeration and Process Safety team on an array of topics including the processes of producing methanol; principles and operations of process control and instrumentation; Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management and process safety.
The visit was concluded with a tour of our plant facilities led by our Operation and Health, Safety, Security, and Environment team.
