BMC CELEBRATES A MOMENTOUS MILESTONE WITH THE LAUNCH OF ONSHORE LOADING FACILITIES

We are proud to announce that on 29 November 2023, we achieved a groundbreaking milestone with the launch of our Onshore Loading Facilities. This marks a significant chapter since we joined hands with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc. (MGC), ITOCHU Corporation (ITC), and the Government of Brunei to establish the first methanol plant in the Sultanate in 2005, with the construction of the plant 16 years ago and methanol production beginning in 2010.

The newly established facilities play a vital role in transcending our operations beyond tradition – by distributing methanol domestically.

Gracing our event were Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Hj Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy), as representative of the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, along with other distinguished guests, including Mr. Takayuki Miyamoto, BMC Chairman; His Excellency Maeda Toru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; BMC Board of Directors; as well as representatives from the regulators and industry stakeholders.

Our Chairman, Mr. Takayuki Miyamoto, emphasized that the Onshore Loading Facilities represent more than physical expansion — it represents our dedication to Brunei's economic development and the contribution to the downstream diversification drive.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest innovations and developments in methanol and its derivatives at our exhibition booth and gain insights from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) on downstream opportunities.

We are proud to contribute to the Sultanate’s sustainable economic development, create value-added employment and support local business services.

In addition, as our CEO, Mr. Jesús Enrique Mora Marín, had highlighted, “BMC is committed to participating in CO2 emissions reduction initiatives, industrial decarbonization and ensuring an effective use of natural resources.”
