Our plant function representatives recently attended the 15th Methanol Technical Meeting in Tokyo, Japan.
Hosted by our main shareholder, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC), this event is held every two years in Japan, where representatives from MGC-related joint ventures and businesses around the world gathered under one roof to share technical knowledge, lessons learned from incidents, and industry updated best practices.
The forum was attended by, amongst others, representatives from MGC, Metanol de Oriente, S.A. (METOR), Ar-Razi Saudi Methanol Co., Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL), and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI). It was an avenue where several improvements made by the other methanol plants were discussed extensively such as online repairs which avoided costly shutdowns, CO2 injection projects that successfully reduced the plant’s energy intensity, and carbon capture technology implementation experience around the world.
A welcoming reception was hosted on the evening of 13 March 2023 to formally introduce all members of the joint ventures. Mr. Masahiko Naito, MGC General Manager, Marketing Department, Methanol Division delivered the welcoming remarks.
Our representatives made their way to MGC’s methanol plant at Niigata upon the conclusion of the forum. This visit provided additional insights into how MGC manages their research and production assets of various downstream commodity chemical manufacturing produced from methanol feedstocks. They also had a tour of the catalyst production sites.
It was truly an amazing opportunity for our representatives to see many familiar faces as well as to observe and learn more about how MGC operate its facilities and how we can further improve to be a world-class methanol supplier of choice.
