EMBASSY OF JAPAN HOSTS RECEPTION CELEBRATING HIS MAJESTY NARUHITO THE EMPEROR OF JAPAN’S 64TH BIRTHDAY


The Embassy of Japan hosted a reception in honour of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, The Emperor of Japan, marking his 64th birthday. The event was held at the Songket Ballroom, Rizqun International Hotel on 27 February 2024, to which BMC representatives were present as well. Observed on 23 February, His Majesty's birthday falls on the same day as the National Day of Brunei Darussalam.


This year holds special significance as it marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei Darussalam established since 1984. Over the four decades, Japan and Brunei Darussalam have built amicable relations through cooperation in the areas of energy, trade and investment, education and people-to-people exchange. With 75% of BMC equity held by Japanese corporations, we take pride in being part of this bond in advancing the shared economic relations.


The evening began with the national anthems of Japan and Brunei Darussalam, setting a resonant tone. Mr. Yamamoto Eiji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei then took the floor to deliver the welcoming remarks.


In attendance at the event as the guest of honor was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Dayang Hajah Romaizah Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Ministry of Education.


The reception was followed by dinner, networking sessions, and a visit to the exhibitions where BMC proudly stood alongside with other esteemed Japanese-owned companies operating in the Sultanate, showcasing our achievements and ongoing initiatives.


BMC Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Mu'izz bin Dato Paduka Haji Alikhan immersed in a discussion with Yang Mulia Datin Seri Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah Haji Md Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education, Ministry of Education and Mr. Yamamoto Eiji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei, as they made their rounds at the exhibition booths.
