MESSAGE FROM CEO

On 13th March 2006, Brunei Methanol Company Sdn. Bhd. (BMC) was formed with only 6 employees, at present we have more than 170 employees working for us and by 2010 we expect this number to reach 190. I am confident that BMC will go from strength to strength towards becoming one of the key players in Brunei Darussalam’s economic diversification and future industrial growth.

Since the beginning, we have committed ourselves to use our best endeavours in employing Bruneians and training them with the skills and know-how necessary for operating and maintaining Brunei Darussalam’s first methanol plant. Currently 96% of our employees are Bruneians. Some of our employees have undergone overseas training in Japan as well as other countries. At the same time, in-house mentoring has been also provided with the assistance of technical specialists from Japan.

As a member of society, BMC’s stakeholders comprising of our customers, the surrounding local communities, local government agencies, our shareholders as well as our own employees. As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Brunei Methanol Company Sdn. Bhd. (BMC) recognized the value of giving attention to stakeholders issues; and therefore committed to relentlessly strive towards strengthening the trust and support from our stakeholders.

Within BMC, we have adopted the ‘3P’ philosophy as our core code of conduct towards becoming a good corporate citizen to our stakeholders. With this in mind, via the 3P philosophy, BMC hope to address and satisfy the myriad of stakeholder issues pertaining to corporate working culture and employee work safety; Plant reliability, productivity and safety; compliance and adherence to international standards and industry best practices; competitiveness and efficiency; as well as the environment.

In furtherance to this philosophy, we have in the past years successfully undertaken several community outreach programmes, via our stakeholder relations meetings with local residents. Recently, we have embarked on a major community project involving the refurbishment and beautification of the local recreation beach at Sungai Liang. Brunei’s ‘Sungai Liang Authority’and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. of Japan also joined to contribute funds in support of this endeavour. The objective of this undertaking is to re-invigorate the socio-economic development of the locality, which directly benefit the Sungai Liang community, and indirectly, the country as a whole.

Moving forward, we shall continue to conduct our business in a manner that will bring benefit to all our stakeholders.

Thank you,

KINYA TSUJI
